Haapakeidas nature route in Siikainen
The route from Katselmankallio to the wilderness mire conservation area of Haapakeidas, ending at Haapajärvi mire farm, mainly runs on easy-to-walk peatlands. The most challenging sections of the route are equipped with boardwalks. Along the route, you can see traces of beaver work as well as lake scenery.
At Haapajärvi farm, you can explore a place where time stopped in the 1970s. Haapajärvi farm functions as a day cabin maintained by the local village association. There is a dry toilet at the cabin.
Return to the starting point by the same route, with an alternative return route via Herranmetsäntie.
Please stay on the route – near Haapakeidas there is a restricted area where access is forbidden between 1 April and 15 July to protect the nesting birds' peace.
The route is maintained by the municipality of Siikainen. The route is marked with trail signs and path markers. Guidance is complemented by a GPX track available on Outdooractive.

Head downhill from the Katselmankallio tower following the guide signs to a small forest road. Follow it for about 50 m, then turn left onto a path. The path runs about 100 m through a pine forest and then moves onto a mire. On the mire, it follows the edge of a ditch for about 400 m, then moves to a small forest island on the other side of the ditch and soon back across the ditch. About 300 m ahead the path reaches the main ditch originating from Little Haapajärvi.
The path gently turns right and after crossing a small ditch it continues about 400 m on a birch-covered peatland, a former aapa mire. After that, the path moves onto a raised bog along the main ditch and follows it for about 700 m until it reaches a bridge. After crossing the bridge, the route follows boardwalks along the edges of Little Haapajärvi for about 600 m and then moves into a forest section. About 400 m later the path reaches Herranmetsäntie, which is followed about 400 m to the Haapajärvi farmyard.
From Haapajärvi farm, return by the same route back to Katselmankallio.

By roadTurn from road 8 towards Kankaanpää and Siikainen, drive 2.2 km on Siikaistentie and turn onto Mäkitie. Drive 8.2 km and then turn gently right onto Lauttijärventie. After less than a kilometer, turn left onto Leppijärventie and continue for 8.8 km, then left onto Herranmetsäntie. Drive 3.7 km and then turn right onto Katselmantie. At the road junction there is a signpost to the observation tower. After one kilometer, you reach the Katselmankallio parking area on the left.
From Pohjanmaantie (44), turn west from the Honkajoki traffic circle onto Siikaistentie and drive 20.2 km, then turn right onto Leppijärventie. Drive 5.8 km and turn right onto Herranmetsäntie. Drive 3.7 km and turn right onto Katselmantie. At the junction there is a signpost to the observation tower. After one kilometer, you reach the Katselmankallio parking area on the left.
From highway 23, start north from Pomarkku on Kivijärventie (2600) for 15 km and turn left at the T-junction near Lilja's wool shop onto Leväsjoki road. Drive 12 km and turn right onto Tuorilantie. After 5.9 km, turn left onto Formuntie, which continues as Tallikankaantie. After a total of 4.6 km, you arrive at Leppijärventie and turn left. Drive 3.7 km until you reach Herranmetsäntie. Drive 3.7 km and turn right onto Katselmantie. At the junction there is a signpost to the observation tower. After one kilometer, you reach the Katselmankallio parking area on the left.
From Siikainen, drive 6.9 km on Siikaistentie and turn left onto Honkajoentie. After 600 m, turn left onto Leppijärventie and drive 5.8 km, then turn right onto Herranmetsäntie. Drive 3.7 km and turn right onto Katselmantie. At the junction there is a signpost to the observation tower. After one kilometer, you reach the Katselmankallio parking area on the left.
