A versatile mountain bike trail in Hämeenkangas. The route section maintained by Metsähallitus extends from Niinisalo to the eastern end of Hämeenkangas. The section starting from Viidentienristeys and ending to Hämeenkyrö is presented here.

In winter, the track is used for cross-country skiing. In summer it is both a hiking and a mountain bike trail.  Along the route you will also find accommodation and restaurant services at Kuninkaanlähde in Kankaanpää and Jämi tourist center. There are also natural swimming pools in both places. 

The highlights of the route area Soininharju and Niiniharju eskers in Jämijärvi, Vatulanharju and Ulvaanharju in Ikaalinen.

The route is marked with Pirkan ura and MTB-signs. The marking varies depending on location, best to use a gpx track. The route is well suited for bikepagking.

Plan your trip

From the parking area at Viidentienristeys, follow the signs for Pirkan ura towards the Kuninkaanlähde. At the very beginning of the route, there is a lean-to shelter, campfire site and toilet of the Viidentienristeys. The route continues past the shelter, at an intersection of about 2.6 km, from where it is possible to deviate to the right to Matolaavu lean-to shelter. Continue straight on for about 800 m, cross Kyrönkankaantie. Following the markings, continue for 1.3 km, allowing you to turn left to the Hiihtolaavu lean-to shelter (approx. 200 m). Route forward about 600 m, possibility to deviate to the right of Kunkunpesä lapp-hut (approx. 350 m). Continue along the route and cross Kuninkaanlähteentie.

After crossing the Kuninkaanlähteentie road, follow route markings from the parking area. After about 300 m at the intersection, signposted to the right of the Kuninkaanlähde  lean-to shelter, there is a toilet. The route continues straight from the junction, after about 1 km turn left at the junction. Continue following the route markings straight until, after 1.8 km, turn right and immediately left at the junction. At a distance of about 900 m, turn left at a steep bend and continue for about 600 m.

From Ruskalaavu lean-to shelter, continue for about 1 km following the route markings and turn right at the junction. Continue for about 100 m and turn left. Continue for 2 km following the route directly. The route now crosses the forest road. Continue the route 1.2 km to the Sormela lean-to shelter. From the sheleter, continue the route for 1.2 km until you reach a crossroads. Cross Sormelantie and continue the route, which on the next 500 m goes around the edge of the airport area and then ascends to the main information point of the Jämi routes. To the left is the Jämi hotel and restaurant, as well as the tourist area, with the possibility of dining and accommodation.

From the main information point, the route continues for about 1 km following the flat central terrace of Hämeenkangas and then ascends about 1 km up to the top of Niiniharju, where Niinikota shelter and the toilet are on the right.

From Niinikota, continue following the route markings, the route follows the highest point of the ridge. A forest road is crossed about 900 m away. The route continues straight for about 1.2 km, with some intersecting routes along the way. Arrive at the junction where the route continues gently to the right. From this junction you can deviate to Koivistonvad, which is about 1 km on the left. The route now continues in a straight line of about 600 m and then turns left just before Kyrönkankaantie road. The section maintained by Metsähallitus ends here, the opportunity to return to the route or continue on to the section maintained by Ikaalinen.

The section maintained by the municipality of Ikaalinen starts on a 1.4 km straight line that follows Kyrönkankaantie road. In Koirikuononahde, the route moves to the road. Continue for about 1.3 km and then turn left. Continue on the forest road for 250 m and turn right. Follow the path for about 600 m, cross the road and continue on the path for 1.5 km. The route crosses a forest road, which is continued for about 600 m. The route crosses the road. The route continues on a forest road for about 850 m, turns sharply to the right, continues for about 400 m and then turns sharply to the left. The route follows the power line for about 1 km, crosses the road, continues following the power line for about 1 km, curves slightly to the left, continues for about 500 m and then curves to the right. The route continues for about 250 m, then turns left and after 200 m turns right and bypasses the Vatulanharju sports field about 500 m away.

From the sports field, the route continues east across the road, about 400 m away the route turns right onto Ristikankaantie and follows it for about 700 m, then turns left onto a forest track and follows it for about 1.5 km. The route then turns right onto the forest road, and after about 150 m turns left. The route again follows the forest track for about 1.5 km to the Ulvaanharju lapp-hut. From the hut, the route continues across the road and after about 1.5 km, turn slightly right onto the ridge. The route continues for about 1 km to the border of Ikaalinen and Hämeenkyrö.

The section maintained by the municipality of Hämeenkyrö continues about 800 m along the forest track, then turns left, after about 200 m turns right, continues along the forest track about 800 m, turns right, continues the forest track about 500 m, turns left, after about 100 m turns left again, 50 m then turn right and follow the track on the edge of Hämeenkyrö airfield for about 1 km. After crossing the road, follow the path along the road for 200 m until you reach the lean-to shelter of Hämeenkyrö airfield.

From the airfield shed, the route continues along the road for about 400 m, then diverges slightly to the left of the road, continues for about 700 m and then turns right and crosses the road. The route continues winding for about 800 m, turns left and after about 50 m to the right, continues following the track for about 1 km, turns right from the fork, after about 300 m turns right and follows the forest road for about 200 m, then turns left, follows the forest and field road for about 700 m, follow the village road for about 550 m, cross the road, turn right and follow the road for about 150 m, turn left and below the third road, after about 300 m crosses the street and to the right the curve crosses another street, continues along the street for about 80 m, crosses the street, turns right and continues on the light traffic route 300 m, turns left, after 200 m of the forest ends at Koulukatu street, follow it 150 m, turn left, follow Kyrönkatu street for about 150 m, and end at the northernmost roundabout on Kyröskoski main street, Valtakatu. The section from the Fifth Crossroads to Hämeenkyrö ends here.

From Route 23 or 44 to Kankaanpää and south of the city center, turn off at the Pansia junction, continue for about 2.3 km, turn left following the signs to Hämeenkangas' Viidentienristeys, continue for about 3 km. Arriving parking on the right side of the road.
