Niinisalo barracks

In the 1930s, the Finnish Defense Forces built modern military buildings in various parts of the country. The ut-to-date architecture of the buildings was intended to communicate the modernity of the defense forces and the country as a whole. At that time, a national military training center was established in Niinisalo. The state owned the land. The dry esker terrain of Hämeenkangas and the sparse pine forest were good construction and training terrain for the defense forces. Architect Kalle Lehtovuori was responsible for planning the area. The plan followed the shape of the esker, which is why the structure of the area became long and narrow. The pale and plastered barracks on the shore of Valkiajärvi lake represent ascetic functionalism. Later, the barracks area has been supplemented with many other buildings.
