Forest research in Alkkianvuori

A great deal of research on mire forest management has been carried out in the areas around Alkkianvuori. An experimental site of the Finnish Forest Research Institute was formerly located in a mire west of the Alkkianvuori hill, and the use of mires for forestry purposes was studied at the site from the 1960s.

Continuous cover forestry, spruce planting interval and methods, and forest cultivation on different types of mineral soil have been studied at Alkkianvuori itself.

The Alkkianvuori nature trail runs through the research forest, which is partially protected, while the rest is used for commercial purposes.
