Stunning spring

In spring, Geopark’s nature comes alive when the sun warms and the snow and ice melt. The hiking trails and services will be fully open to hikers after the winter.

You can have wonderful nature experiences in the mires in spring. You can follow the migration and springtime activities of cranes and other birds with binoculars or telescope from the bird tower. The abundance of bird species in the spring is most diverse in the mires, but you can also see huge flocks of migratory birds in the fields.

When the snow melts, white-flowered cotton wool tassels dot the brushwood.  In wet terrain, you should stick to duckboards. Waterproof equipment is necessary in any case, as water rises in places even on the duckboards.

Bright spring evenings invite you to the trails.

Summer hiker’s dream come true

The summer Geopark offers hikers and tourists the best. The area’s unique nature and attractive events invite you to explore the Geopark.

Early in the summer on the hiking trails, the air is filled with the charming scent of marsh tea. The Geopark has several mire sites that are also suitable for children. Later in the summer, packed lunches can be supplemented with blueberries or cloudberries picked along the trail.

Hiking on a sunny, warm summer day can make you sweat. From time to time, take a refreshing swim in a pond, lake or gently flowing river. For example, at Kauhalammi in Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas National Park and at Spitaalijärvi in Lauhanvuori National Park, you can take a dip in the water from the pier. However, these swimming spots in national parks are not official swimming spots.

Take a summer adventure to Geopark by bike. Along the Two Billion Year Tours route, you can get to know the Geopark’s two billion year story. Spend the night in a tent or hammock and experience the magical atmosphere of Geopark’s summer nights and early mornings.
