Hyypänjokilaakso cultural landscape

The Hyypäjokilaakso has been formed in a depression created in the bedrock fracture zone, where thick ice age soil deposits have accumulated. Hyypänmäki in the middle of the valley is a till-covered esker older than the last ice age and an important part of the valley's landscape.

Kauhajoki flows along the bottom of the valley. Its tributaries flow in small erosion gullies along the edges of the valley. There are many springs in the area. In the middle of the valley, in Panttikylä, there is the Hyypänjokilaakso observation tower, which opens up wide views of the valley.

The area's landscape is a living agricultural landscape that is comprehensively managed to preserve both cultural and natural beauty. The best way to immerse yourself in the landscape is to participate in the annual Hyypän Patikka walking event, where you can get to know the landscape in a guided way from the hiking trails. There are several marked walking and cycling routes in the valley.
