Kaivolammi pond and Kaivolamminkangas mire

Kaivolammi and the mire spreading to the east of it form an entity similar to Spitaalijärvi, but on a smaller scale. The pond was created in a lagoon-like depression dammed by shore walls, which is bordered between two tombolo-type ridges. The coastal formations have protected the soil of the waves of Ancylus lake, which is why the soil is not as strongly washed away as on the slopes of Lauhanvuori in general. Water has managed to accumulate on the dense moraine bed as a pond, and on its eastern side a swamp has been created by swamping the seasonal wetland. A similar process of bog creation is still ongoing in Kaivolamminkangas, about 500 m southeast of Kaivolami.

Due to the influence of the swamp, the water in the pond is rich in humus and brown in color. Sometimes attempts have been made to dry the pond, but the drainage ditches have since been filled. Kaivolammi and Kaivolamminkangas swamp are both geotargets.
