Kevät artwork in Kankaanpää

Sirpa Ristamäki, 1998.

The artwork’s name Kevät can be translated to Spring. On a grassy field with stairs made out of rusting steel, the artist is raising growth on a pedestal. Oat or grass is planted on top of the artwork every spring. The artist abandoned traditions and raised a living growth on the pedestal.

The name of the artwork contains symbolism about the artist’s own life. When she started studying in Kankaanpää art school, she felt like she had gotten a completely new life from the school. Personal growth is combined with nature’s growth and taking care of its values.
