Kuivajärvi lake

Kuivajärvi is Lauhanvuori National Park's largest seasonal wetland. It is 300 meters long and at most 150 meters wide. In early summer it appears as a small lake, in late summer as a meadow. It is a mineral wetland covered by mire vegetation, but where no peat is produced. The plant remnants that accumulate in the wetland are decomposed during the dry seasons.

The water level of Kuivajärvi is regulated by the amount of spring meltwater and fluctuations in the groundwater level. In the spring, the pool is filled with water, which slowly soaks into the sandy soil during the summer. If the groundwater level is higher than normal, the water cover lasts longer, but usually the pool dries up by the end of summer.

Kuivajärvi is located along the Geobike route. There are no service facilities at the site, but a small path leads to the shore of the lake.
