Memorial of departure for Winter War 1939

On October 10th, 1939, the reservists were called to additional rehearsals. At that time, Karvia's reservists gathered at the Kantinkylä Country Observatory.

In 1984, the war veterans of Karvia erected a memorial on the same site to commemorate future generations as engraved on the memorial.

The unveiling ceremony of the monument was held on November 25, 1984.

About 800 men from Karviah participated in the Winter and Continuation War. In addition, 16 women from Karviah served in various positions in the war zone.

13 men were killed in the Winter War and 74 in the Continuation War. In addition, between 1945 and 1947, eight soldiers seriously wounded in the war died in various hospitals or at home, who were then also classified as heroes.
