”Muisto äidille” memorial, Jämijärvi
In Pihlajamaa's opinion, mother was great hero of life, who was able to take care of her family in difficult circumstances, despite poverty, illness and violence.
The memorial is located at Palokoski in Jämijärvi. It is the same place where Pihlajamaa was born.
Lasse Pihlajamaa was a worldwide known self-taught accordionist, composer, teacher and accordion developer. He played a vital role in the evolution of Finnish accordion music towards what it is today. He wrote many great waltzes, polkas, tangos and mazurkas. His accordion school in Helsinki between years 1957-1973 was a starting point for many Finnish artist and composers.
