Museum chapel of Kauhajoki parish

The museum building was designed by architect Matti Björklund (later Visanti). It was completed in 1927 and served as a blessing chapel until 1965, when the church council handed it over for museum use. The eye entering the museum is captured by the original altarpiece of the church built in 1820 on the rear wall. It is painted by K.F.Blom. The artefacts in the museum chapel mainly come from the church built in 1820, which was rebuilt twice (1902 and 1955) and many historically valuable objects were destroyed in a fire (1956). In addition to ecclesiastical material, the museum has e.g. mail bags of the deaconry, a pulpit of the circuit school, old books, a priest's suit made of wartime cloth and a lantern of deacon Lybeck. In the summer of 2021, the church museum was converted into a museum chapel, where church services and various events can be organized.
