Pelle artwork in Kankaanpää

The students of Kankaanpää Art School, Matti Kalkamo and Heli Ryhänen created a clown. The artwork is made of colourful glazed ceramics as a sculpture project.

In a grieving clown, the simultaneity of feelings of joyness and sadness are conveyed in a touching way. The work is from 1994.

"When we were shaping the work with Matti Kalkamo, the clown's pants were still straight and upright. We built the work little too fast so the legs started to sink down. We found that it looks better with loose pounts and left them chubby."

"Adults find the clown sad but the children said it is happy at the opening. You can only see the expression from below."

- Heli Ryhänen
