Pertti Mäkinen & Reijo Paavilainen, 2006.
The artwork’s name Rauhan kyyhky can be tranlated to Dove of peace. The artists have created symbolism in the artwork that is thought provoking, yet simple and easily understandable by the viewer. Between the granite pillars, i.e. “two sides of a conflict”, a dove of peace flies, representing the peacekeeping operations of UN.
The Dove of Peace was commissioned by the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Finnish peacekeeping operations. The piece includes a curved bench, on which you can rest for moment and admire the artwork.
