People of Isojoki wanted to show off their potato peeling skills. In 1984, potatoes were peeled for a total of 1,218 hours, i.e. 50 days. By the end of the job, more than 10,000 kilos of potatoes had been peeled. It ended up in the Guinness Book of Records, and the record has not been broken to this day.
In honor of the peeling event, it was decided to make a monument. A large sculpture of Hackman was chosen. The almost 4 m high monument was made by the Alakortes metal workshop in Isojoki. Veistos is still the world's largest potato peeling knife.
