Aumakivi tor

Aumakivi is a weathering formation created by weathering from a rock, ie a tor formation. It was originally a cube-shaped piece of granite rock around which weathering has consumed the rock away. Tors are abundant on the lower slopes of Lauhanvuori, where they are found around the national park.

Aumakivi was formed by weathering in a warm and humid climate. This was also the case in Finland a few tens of millions of years ago. Aumakivi's granite is 1,900 million years old, but it was not formed until about 70 to 20 million years ago. To this day, it has survived because the continental glacier consumed little in the Lauhanvuori region during the ice age.
