Iso-Kakkori hill

Iso-Kakkori is a granite hill rising 145 meters above sea level and the highest point of Karijoki. The height difference to the Karijoki center is about 90 meters. Iso-Kakkori is a remnant hill consisting of granitic bedrock, i.e. a remnant of a higher landform from an earlier geological era. The rock is coarse-grained reddish granite and it has crystallized deep in the interior of the ancient Svecofennian mountain range, at a depth of about 10 km. The age of the stone is about 1.88 billion years. The bedrock of Iso-Kakkori belongs to a huge block of granite, i.e. an intrusion crystallized from molten rock, which stretches all the way to Honkajoki. The same granite is also found under the Lauhanvuori sandstone. Lauhanvuori can be seen as a rather impressive hill at the top of Iso-Kakkori.

Iso-Kakkori granite has its place in the cultural landscape of Karijoki. Jokilaakso's old bridges and stone foundations of houses are often built from stone quarried from the top of Iso-Kakkori.

There is a lapp-hut on Iso-Kakkori.
