Ancient Mountains Trail Network

Distance 76,3 km
Duration 18h 45min

The route includes several side trails and many structures in Teuva, Karijoki, and Kristiinankaupunki. Along the routes, you will find many interesting details and pleasant scenery, even though the trails run through commercial forests. You will see the vast demonic fields shaped by the ice age, gorges, cliff walls, groves, and rich vegetation with swamp areas.

Along the route you will find:

  • 4 observation towers
  • 16 lean-tos
  • 6 information points
  • 8 possible starting points

The surroundings of Kakkorinvuori, Peurajärvi, and Susiluola have interesting details. At Kakkorinvuori, there is an observation tower, a kota shelter, and nature guides.

Near Susivuori is found the largest cave in Finland by area. What makes Susiluola astonishing are the Neanderthal-made artifacts found there dating back 120,000 years! It is the oldest known dwelling place in the Nordic countries. You can also peek into Susiluola – however, through a grate.

In Karijoki, the route starts right near the town center.

From the center of Teuva, it is approximately 9 km to Parra and about 5 km to Pappilankangas.

The unique Pyhävuori area is located about 15 km northeast of Kristiinankaupunki town center, where five mountain peaks rise clearly above the flat Ostrobothnia plain. From here also starts the ancient mountains trail network from Kristiinankaupunki.
