Kaidatvedet lakes

Kaidatvedet is a chain of small lakes that united into one lake in the 1950s with the construction of the Käenkoski dam. The lakes are located in the north-south valley, where the center of Parkano and Lake Parkano are also located. The valley is part of a series of valleys that occur every 6-7 kilometers in the eastern part of the Geopark. These zones of weakness in the bedrock determine the location of rivers and lakes, as well as the placement of settlements in the area.

There are rocks, moraines and bogs on the shores of Kaidavedet. The area is part of the Kyrönkangas winter road, an old road from Southern Finland to Ostrobothnia. The road was mainly used in winter, after the lakes froze. For example, the Italian explorer Giuseppe Acerbi traveled along it in the winter of 1799 on his way to Lapland and the Nordkapp.

Kaitojenvesi's services include Parkano Forest Museum and Käenkoski Ski Center and the Käpykintukka Nature Trail. There is a lean.to shelter and a campfire site by the lake.
