Raatosulkonneva mire

Raatosulkonneva is a groundwater-effect bog with a sloping surface located on the slope of Alkkianvuori. It is a slope mire, but it is located outside the main area where the slopes mires occur in NE Finland. Ratosulkonneva is about 800 meters long and the difference in height between its upper and lower parts is almost 20 meters.

There are several groundwater discharge points in the edge parts of Raatosulkonneva. The water flowing into the bog from these raises the pH value typical of bog waters, which is reflected in the vegetation of the bog. Many demanding plant species thrive in habitats with a higher pH, such as grasses, sedges and sedges, which are typical of more nutrient-rich environments. Juniper also grows in the swamp.

Raatosulkonneva is partly wooded and partly open. In its lower part, it turns into a six-sided raven swamp. The Alkkianvuori nature trail runs through the bog, and the bog sections have pine trees. There are no other services in the swamp, but there is a hut, a campfire site and a dry toilet at the starting point of the route.
