Kivijata

Kivijata is an 800-meter-long and more than 100-meter-wide boulder field, which consists almost exclusively of sandstone. It is the best place to explore the Lauhanvuori sandstone formation, which is a remnant of the sedimentary rock cover that covered Finland a long time ago. It is the largest sandstone remnant mountain in the Finnish mainland and one of the few sandstone remnant mountains in the entire Fennoscandian shield region.

Kivijata has been created from the rock by crumbling in accordance with the natural fissures of the sandstone. In addition, the glaciers may have pushed sandstone over the edge of the deposit as a slab, after which frost weathering has broken the stone. This is indicated by the location of the stone line on top of the sandstone layer found in the rock and in some places the moraine layers found below the stone lines. The beach stages after the ice age have washed away and shaped the surface of the stone line, where gentle beach ridges stand out.

In the northern part of Kivijata, it is cut by the trace of the post-ice age earthquake.
