Kivikirves artwork in Kankaanpää

The "Kivikirves" from 1995 by Pirkko Nuutinen.

The name, "Kivikirves" can be translated as stone ax.

The stone ax depicts the rocky soil of Kankaanpää as well whole rocky origins of Finland. The sculpture is discreetly placed on a pine forest lawn. The background of the work is the monumental brick wall of the Kankaanpää ballhall by designers and architects Kaija and Heikki Siren.

The primitive humans have used stone many ways. According to the artists,  the symbolism of strong and durable stone is associated with the union of wood, water and basic starting points of life.
