Maantielakso seasonal wetland

Maantielakso is a seasonal wetland of little over two hectares. In the spring, meltwater from Laksonneva mire and the surrounding lands accumulates in it, which creates a small lake. As the summer progresses, the waters of the lake slowly filter through its bottom into Pohjankangas, whereupon they become groundwater. What remains is a dry land covered by a thin layer of mud, with very little vegetation.

Seasonal wetlands are a poorly known group of wetlands. They are found along the coast of Ostrobothnia, often at the interface of sandy ridges and swamps, but also in moraines. In the Kauhaneva - Pohjankangas National Park, they usually occur in mires dammed by the paleobaech ridges, where the water from the mires flows into a cul-de-sac formed by a paleobeach ridge sitated against the esker. Seasonal wetlands are often small, either without vegetation cover or open grasslands.

There is a QR code signboard on the edge of the wetland, no other structures.
