Peräkorpi spring and mires

The Peräkorpi spring is located in Lauhanvuori National Park. It is the largest spring in the park. The spring's water comes from Lauhanvuori soil. The vast beach deposits washed from the slopes of Lauhanvuori into sand and gravel collect water from a wide area, which flows to the surface in numerous springs on the lower slopes of the mountain.

In Lauhanvuori, the springs are usually located on the borders of dry terrain and mires. Groundwater coming to the surface enriches the area's mire nature. In addition, the numerous streams that originate from the springs are an important habitat for, among other things, sea trout.

The Peräkorvpi-Lohikeidas marsh complex is also a good example of a groundwater-influenced marsh. The area has e.g. springs, seepage surfaces and seasonal wetlands.

The Peräkorpi spring is easily accessible along the path that connects Spitaalijärvi and Kivijata. The spring and the surrounding mire are both geosites of the Lauhanvuori - Hämeenkangas Geopark.
