Sampo Vuoressa artwork in Kankaanpää

The artwork’s name Sampo vuoressa can be translated to Sampo in a mountain. The Kalevalian miracle mill Sampo was meant to symbolize Kankaanpää’s entrepreneurship.

The monumental four-meter-high Sampo is made of brass and its stone frame is gray granite from Kuru. Inside the work is a copper cylinder with documents and items from the day it was finished.

Inside the cylinder there is newspapers, money, a city brochure and a 1974 budget, information on industry, and minutes from the Statue Commission.

Kalevala is poetry collection compiled by Elias Lönnrot in the 19th-century from Karelian and Finnish oral folklore and mythology.
