Nature trail of Kustaa the elk in Parkano

Distance 1,9 km
Duration 0h 30min
Moderate
In the area of the Forest Museum there is a two-kilometer-long Kustaa deer nature trail. It starts at the parking lot of the forest museum and takes you through the spacious Alaisenneva mire and the fascinating Messukallio cliff to the campfire site of the forest museum.

There are information boards along the route that encourage action and reflection. The route has sections with duckboards and there are some altitude variations, so it is not unobstructed.

There is a lean-to shelter and a fireplace at the forest museum. The route is managed by the City of Parkano. The route is guided by marked signs and route signs in terrain. The guide is complemented by the GPX trail found on Outdooractive.

The path starts from the parking area of the Forestry Museum. Before the gate of the forestry museum, there are signs for a path that first descends through the forest to Alaisenneva mire, which has a section of duckboard trail. About 200 m away there is a short deviation to the right with a small viewing platform. The path continues for about 100 m, and then rises to a rocky cliff rising in the woods. The route follows the rocky ridge to the south for about 150 m and then turns left and after a small gully rises to the next ridge and follows it for about 500 m until you reach Messukallio.

Messukallio has an outdoor scenery church and is well suited as a resting place. On Messukallio, the path intersects with Käpykintukka and continues to the left along the shore of the lake. After about 700 m, the route returns to the Forest Museum's courtyard. A wide plank path leads to the campfire site and lean-to on the right bank. The same plank path leads back to the left towards the starting point of the path, partly through the Forestry Museum's outdoor exhibition.
