The Challenging Accessible Trail in Kauhaneva

Distance 2,6 km
Duration 0h 40min
Easy
In Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas National Park, the gently rolling esker landscape of western Finland meets an open marshland. On Kauhaneva’s challenging, accessible trail, you’ll get to experience both. The trail is partly a loop and partly a round-trip route. The trailhead is the Salomaa parking area, which also features a separate RV park where you can stay overnight.

Along this challenging, accessible trail, you’ll find a campfire site, a lean-to, a viewing platform, an easy-to-walk boardwalk, and a medieval road. There is an accessible restroom at the trailhead, and next to the Salomaa shelter, there is a well and a firewood shed. The trail and its facilities are maintained by Metsähallitus Nature Services.

From the parking area, head past the information signs along the gravel path, following the black trail markers to the Salomaa campfire site, about 300 m. From the campfire site, continue northeast along the gravel path that runs along the edge of the marsh for about 400 m. Then turn left and continue north along the medieval Kyrönkankaantie road. After about 250 m, the trail enters a section of boardwalk, which continues for about 450 m until it turns left toward the observation deck on the edge of Kauhaneva.

The return trip follows the same route: continue about 450 m south along the boardwalk and then 250 m along the old road to the trail junction, from where the trail continues straight ahead along the old road for about 500 m to the Salomaa parking area, the trail’s starting point.
